Courtesy of my friend Jamey Hatley, here's a note about an event that might challenge your notions of southern music--The 2010 Black Banjo Gathering Reunion at Appalachian State University. That event is headlined by the all-black bluegrass trio, the Carolina Chocolate Drops (whom, I believe, performed at the Ferst Center recently). While it might seem incongruous, they're currently atop Billboard magazine's bluegrass chart. The Chocolate Drops are featured in this month's issue of Paste (an Atlanta-based music magazine).
