How this blog will work...

Throughout the semester, I will post links to interesting things I encounter; I hope you do the same on your blogs and by commenting on mine. None of these readings or viewings are mandatory, but they might provide additional context and even topics for your projects. Typically, I'll tag these items as "tangential stuff."

If something refers to a particular assignment or project, I'll tag it with "Assignment" or with the name of the particular project.

If something refers to a particular reading, I'll add a tag for that text.

This particular item comes courtesy of my little sister....

Seventy years ago last month, Gone With the Wind premiered at the Fox Theatre, just down the street. All the big stars were there, including the cast of the movie--well, most of the cast: Hattie McDaniel, who won an Oscar for the role of "Mammy," and the other African American members of the cast were not invited.

That's not to say that the weekend of festivities features only white folks . . . indeed, black people were present as entertainers. At a grand ball the night before, the choir of the Ebenezer Baptist Church performed. Watch this video to see who was among that group.
